Compare the two sessions to help you decide.
If you are applying for Medical and Dentistry courses at certain universities, you can take the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) on 31 August 2019. This means you will receive your BMAT result before the UCAS application deadline.
Registration for BMAT – August has now closed but you can still take BMAT on 30 October 2019 at centres worldwide.

BMAT – August is an alternative test date for BMAT in October. The test will have the same format and will be scored in the same way as the October test. Test sections will be equated so that scores across the two sessions will be equivalent. Results from either session will be considered equally by the institutions/courses participating in BMAT – August, so when you take the test is your choice.

For BMAT – October, your school/college/test centre needs to register you for the test when registration is open. Find out more about registration for BMAT – October.
Please note, some institutions/courses will not accept August results.
BMAT is a 2-hour, pen-and-paper test divided into three sections. You can see what is in each section below.

The courses below accept results from the August session.
Please always check the website of your chosen institution(s) to confirm which BMAT test session(s) they accept.
Institutions/courses not accepting BMAT – August results:
** University of Oxford – Medicine and BioMedical Sciences:
The University of Oxford will only accept BMAT results from the October session for A100 Medicine and BC98 Biomedical Sciences. If you are applying for either of these courses at the University of Oxford, you must take the test in October only, even if you are also applying to institutions/courses that accept August results.
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine:
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine will only accept BMAT results from the October session for Medicine. If you are applying to LKC Medicine, you must take the test in October only, even if you are also applying to institutions/courses that accept August results.
Nazarbayev University School of Medicine:
If you're applying to Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, please contact them for information.
* Both UK/EU Fee status students and International students will need to sit the BMAT for 2020 entry.
† If you’re applying to Thai universities, please visit their websites to check application details, as nationality or other restrictions may apply.
You will need to register yourself for the test. Registration opens on 24 June 2019 and closes on 11 August 2019.
Please note, the August test session is available at over 30 test centres around the UK and internationally, so there will be limited capacity available. If you decide to take the test in August, we advise booking early.

If one or more of the universities you are applying to do not accept August results, you must take the test in October.
You must only take BMAT once.
If you do not take the test in August, you can take BMAT in October instead, at test centres around the world, as long as your institution/course accepts October results (always check university websites to confirm). This session will run in the usual way on Wednesday 30 October 2019.
