I cannot afford the test fees, what can I do?

UK students in financial need can take the test for free at one of the British Council authorised test centres in the UK.

You need to apply to us for a test voucher code that you can use instead of payment in your online booking with the British Council. The test voucher codes cover both the registration fees and administration fees.

You must apply for your test voucher code before registering with the British Council.

Follow these steps:

1. Check that you meet the eligibility criteria (in the table below) and ensure that you have the relevant supporting document(s) for your application.

2. Complete the application form including uploading the relevant supporting document(s).

  • The form will be available from 1 September to 29 September at 18:00 (BST). Please apply as early as possible so you can receive the voucher code ahead of the booking deadline.

3. Receive your test voucher code within five working days by email.

  • Please check your junk/spam folders in case the email is there.
  • If you have not received it within this timeframe, please contact our Customer Support team at ATadministration@cambridgeassessment.org.uk
  • Please do not apply multiple times.
  • We reserve the right to request additional evidence.

4. Book your test via the British Council online booking portal before 29 September at 18:00 (BST).

  • The test voucher code should be inputted at the payment stage of the registration process.
