Important information about TMUA 2022

Both the registration deadline and the test date are earlier than in previous years.

  • The final registration deadline is 30 September. No late registrations will be accepted after this date.
  • The test date is 18 October.

Please also note that TMUA will be a pen-and-paper test this year.

Follow our simple step-by-step guide below to find out how to register for the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA).

1. Find a test centre

Firstly, speak to the Exams Officer at your school/college to find out if they are registered to run our admissions tests. If they are, then proceed to the next step.

If not, you have two options:

  • Your school can check to see if it is eligible to apply to become a test centre. The deadline to do this is 16 September 2022 at 12.00 noon (BST).
  • You can find an alternative venue from our global network of test centres.

2. Ask the Exams Officer to register you for the test

To be registered for the test, you will be asked to provide the following:

  • personal details such as your name and date of birth
  • UCAS number
  • medical evidence if you require modified question papers or any Access Arrangements such as extra time.

Please note: The deadline to apply for modified papers is 16 September 2022. The deadline to apply for all other Access Arrangements is 30 September 2022.

3. Get your candidate entry number as proof of registration

As proof that you are registered for the test, make sure you get your candidate entry number from your Exams Officer.

4. Get ready for TMUA

To ensure you know what to expect from the test day, check the full details with your test centre. They’ll be able to provide information about the test including the specific location, timings and what to bring with you on the test day.

To prepare for the test, we provide everything you need for free on our website. Visit the TMUA preparation page.

Have you got more questions? See below

Can my school/college register to become a test centre?

Your school/college may be eligible to apply to become a test centre. The deadline to apply is 16 September 2022 at 12.00 noon (BST).

Details of how to do this can be found on our Customer Support Site.

I cannot find a test centre nearby, what can I do?

If you cannot find a test centre in your home town or nearby, and your school is not eligible to administer our tests, you will need to travel to the closest test centre.

Can I cancel my test registration? Will I get a refund?

Yes, your Exams Officer can cancel your test registration for you but only up until 30 September 2022.

If you paid additional administration fees, it is up to your test centre as to whether they will refund these fees. Please speak to your test centre directly.

How do I apply for Access Arrangements?

Please inform your test centre as early as possible of any special requirements.

Access Arrangements are available if you have a disability or special requirement and you are entitled to support for other exams.

Examples of Access Arrangements include, but are not limited to:

  • use of a laptop/computer
  • extra time
  • separate invigilation
  • enlarged papers (modified question paper).

Your centre will:

  • ask for full details of your disability or special requirement
  • ask you for a copy of your medical evidence
  • submit the request for Access Arrangements, if appropriate.

I cannot afford the test registration fee, what can I do?

For test-takers in the UK, we provide a reimbursement scheme. To find out if you are eligible, please visit the TMUA dates and costs page.

By registering for the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA), you agree that data provided as part of the entry or admission process may be passed to any institution involved in your university application and that the data may be anonymised and used for research purposes. You also agree that if you obtain a place on a course where the test results form part of the admissions process, then your university may supply Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing with data about your application and results in subsequent assessments at that university, unless you specifically notify the university in writing. We store personal data securely and will ensure if test-taker data is used in publications or research that it is used anonymously.
